2013-02-02 Forty years on: Pretoria Branch’s 40th anniversary
RSCDS Pretoria celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2012. As the musicians we wanted for our 40th anniversary ball were fully booked, we decided to postpone the ball to early this year. Muriel Johnstone (piano) and Keith Smith (fiddle) had played at our 35th anniversary ball and we were absolutely delighted to welcome them back to play at our 40th anniversary ball! We were also privileged to have Muriel and Keith take a branch class.
Almost 50 people attended the ball, with dancers coming from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Pietermaritzburg to join us. What a happy, enjoyable and fun evening we had dancing to superb music! We also launched our third book of dances. Entitled Forty years on, the book contains 28 new dances written by Pretoria Branch members and friends. Branch teacher, Wouter Joubert, was presented with an RSCDS Branch Award in recognition of his commitment and service to the branch.
